2008, Issue 11
Do you ever wish you were back in school? Feel nostalgic for those spiral-bound notebooks and Crayola-filled pencil cases? Miss the days of homeroom - while you're spending hours in the boardroom? Well if that's the case, this issue is for you!
Whether in school or not, you can still apply your old school favorites (yes, pun intended) to your everyday routines. So pull up a chair, take a seat at your desk, and get ready to take some notes; class has officially begun.
This month, indulge your inner fifth grader.
- Pack Your Lunch. Brown bagging it - or even making a colorful upgrade (check out this month's "love it") - will save you money AND unwanted calories. Leave the Chinese buffet or gravy-smothered turkey for your co-workers, and opt for a healthier and more cost-effective option instead. Your stomach - and wallet - will thank you.
- Keep a Pen on Hand. How many times do you find yourself searching endlessly for a pen? Put an end to this constant dilemma by placing a few pens or pencils in a Ziploc bag or empty makeup case before throwing it into your tote. This way, even if your workbag is roomy, you'll be able to locate a pen quickly and hassle-free.
- Choose Your Backpack (or Briefcase) Wisely. Select a bag with pockets - for pens, your cell phone, business cards - whatever you may need on a daily basis. Giving the things you often carry with you an automatic home ensures their safety (they won't get lost) and your security (in finding them easily).
- Dress Your Best. Dress as though everyday is your first day of school. Wearing clothes that make you feel good and confident will translate into a more secure and successful professional.
- Don't Forget Art and PE. Even amidst the chaos of the work-week, make sure to pencil in time for fitness and creativity. Sign up for a kickboxing class, a pottery workshop, or join the local softball league. Keeping your mind and body active will help you work more efficiently and leave you happier overall.
Wishing you a month of straight As and afternoon recess,
